News: Four Cambodian women escape Thai brothels

Two human rights organisations in Koh Kong province – Adhoc and the Healthcare Centre for Children (HCC) – took in four Cambodian women yesterday evening who had escaped from brothels in Thailand.

Neang Boratino, provincial co-ordinator for Adhoc, said the women had been forced into prostitution, and escaped only with help from Thai police.

One of the women told the Post that they were forced to have sex with brothel guests four to 10 times a day.

If they refused, they would be “hit with nails” on their hands and legs.

The woman, who was cheated by a broker and sold to a brothel, said the group begged for help from Thai police, who sent them to the Cambodian border.

Boratino said the women will remain at the HCC for the time being – until they are healthy and mentally stable.

Srey Thoch, chief of the Koh Kong Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection office, said that the women would be interviewed by the police in order to locate the brokers that cheated them.
