NGO-CEDAW condemns the violence by authorities and demonstrators and the arrest of four lawmakers-elects Including a women.

This morning at Freedom Park, what had started as a peaceful demonstration, quickly degenerated into a scene of nauseating violence causing numerous wounded. Amateur videos show security guards, not official police forces,  initiating the the violence which then escalated.

Following these events, organizers of the demonstration, four lawmakers-elects from the CNRP party, were brought to the policefor questioning. Among these lawmakers-elects was Ms. Mu Sochua, a prominent political activist. NGO-CEDAW deplores any violence inflicted to women, even when they are of a status as high as lawmakers-elects.
